  • The top most requested feature is finally here … Attribute Changer goes portable !

Attribute Changer 11.20 can now be used in two different ways, either as a shell extension or as a portable application. To use it as a portable application, launch the executable or shortcut from the Start menu.

Then, simply drop your files or folders onto the main window and Attribute Changer will act the same way you know it by using the ‘Change attributes’ context menu entry.

But you can go further … dragging the files while holding the “Control (CTRL)” key will give you access to enhanced features that are also available in the shell extension. You won’t loose any functionality.

After Attribute Changer has finished processing your dropped selection, you can keep the window open and drop another set of files and folders.

Two installers are available, the classic one which installs the whole application with Start menu shortcuts, but you can now choose if you would like to install the shell extension. This gives you the choice to install Attribute Changer as an application that can only be launched from a shortcut and remove the shell integration.

A second installer does only extract the files to a folder of your choice, so it’s a true portable application.

Version 11.20 includes the following enhancements:

    · Make Attribute Changer portable
    · Saving main window position (portable mode)
    · Context menu for attribute checkboxes
    · Add option to make Attribute Changer stay in front
    · Option to select/deselect shell extension in installer
    · Fix EXIF issue with IPTC segment
    · Updated user guide

  • I’m pleased to announce a new release of Attribute Changer, focusing especially on the detailed logging feature.

    · Enhanced JPEG EXIF header detection, supporting more JPEG files
    · Rewrite of detailed logging feature
    · Natural sort algorithm for detailed logging
    · Subdir state saved on exit
    · Fixed TAB order for keyboard navigation
    · Fixed issue to display all elements in ‘Size’ filter listbox
    · Fixed broken mouse wheel scrolling in listboxes
    · Fixed issue to disable controls during processing
    · Fixed memory hog in processing engine

The detailed logging feature has been completely rewritten and on a test machine with 251000 files and 500 folders, the improvements with an open logging window during processing are impressive:

Time: 200 seconds down to 70 seconds
Memory: 990 MB down to 210 MB

By the way, saving the state of the “Include sub-folders and files” checkbox was removed in version 11 …. I understood your complaints and it’s back 🙂

  • Does Attribute Changer 11 run on Windows 10 / 11 ARM ? … I got several requests to get it running on ARM.

Well, I enabled ARM support in the setup and users reported back that Attribute Changer installs successfully and can be used without problems with Windows 11 ARM.

Attribute Changer itself is an x86/x64 application and will use Microsoft’s emulation layer to run on Windows ARM. On Windows 11 ARM it uses 64-bit emulation and it’s limited to 32-bit on Windows 10 ARM.

If you are successfully running Attribute Changer 11 on Windows ARM, please report back your experience.

  • I’m pleased to announce the availability of Attribute Changer 11, featuring a radically simplified user interface with some additional nice features.

    · New, simplified user interface
    · Merged file and folder properties/filters
    · Simplified user guide
    · Main window opens near mouse pointer
    · /F /D and /T options in name filters to tag specific items
    · Use of comments in name filters
    · New advanced option ‘Date and time Now’
    · Unsorted list of name filters
    · Add GByte unit to filters

  • Attribute Changer 10.10 is available and it includes one of the most requested feature, a sequence mode for date and time values. Some reported issues are fixed as well:

    · Sequence mode for files and folders
    · Fixed issue that Exif headers without DateTime tags could remove GPS tags
    · Fixed XMP tag issues when saving EXIF modifications
    · Fixed issue with advanced mode for photos not always working
    · Fixed issue that filter name exceptions were not saved

    What is Sequence mode?

When enabling Sequence Mode in the advanced mode, Attribute Changer will set a different date/time value for every selected file/folder. The values specified in the offset fields will be used as an additional date and time interval for every file/folder.

For example, if a start date/time value of ’26/04/2021 15:00:00′ and a hour offset of 1 hour is defined on a selection of files, the date/time of the first file will be set to ’26/04/2021 15:00:00′, the second file to ’26/04/2021 16:00:00′; the third to ’26/04/2021 17:00:00′ and so on…

The order of the items is determined by your selection in Explorer and the right-click action. If you select 4 items in Explorer and then right-click on the third one to launch Attribute Changer, Explorer will send a circular list to Attribute Changer: Item 3, Item 4, Item 1, Item 2.

Explorer uses the item you used to right-click as the first one and then continues until the end of the selection and wraps to the beginning of the list.
