Virtualizing an operating system is a useful feature for IT professionals and end users.

One can duplicate the production machine and use it for testing new software before applying the changes to a production machine. It also gives you the flexibility to run several other operating systems such as Linux, Windows, FreeBSD on top of your operating system.

Attribute Changer development for example is done exclusively in a virtual Windows 7 machine running in VMware Fusion on top of the Apple OS X operating system. Several other virtual machines, including Windows 2000, XP and Vista are used to test Attribute Changer without having the need to buy extra hardware.

The virtualization tutorial tries to give some hints to virtualize Microsoft Windows in a VMware Fusion virtual machine. These remarks should also be applicable to Parallels Desktop.

I hope you enjoy this virtualization section. More in depth information including video tutorials can be found at VMware’s website. Discover their support videos, tutorials, Fusion blog and a great support forum.
